Quilter's World October 2010

QuiltWoman.com independent designer, Jen Eskridge, has a bag project featured in Quilter’s World October 2011 “In The Bag” section.  This is the first article for their “In The Bag” series.  You’ll find the purse project with multiple photographs and illustrations for your success in sewing.  Congratulations on her recent publication.

Her company blog, ReannaLily Designs, was also noted in their “Web Connections: What we’re reading” article.

“Jen Eskridge is the designer behind the name at ReannaLily Designs.  Jen’s blog has great tutorials, information on her new patterns and what she’s currently working on, plus awesome giveaways.  It’s amazing what she can make out of recycling military uniforms. ” – Quilter’s World Oct 2011, pg 10.

Great work!

Pattern Booklets NEW at QuiltWoman.com

Monday, August 2nd, 2010

TwoFellas

QuiltWoman.com is releasing a line of booklet style patterns. They aren’t quite a book, and they are so much more than a single pattern. Your customers are going to love the conservative price point for the amount of projects we’ve included in each booklet.

Our newest booklet title, Fatty Pennies by Ellen Ault,  released in late July.

From our website:

Fatty Pennies are designed with fat quarters in mind!  The eye designs of many of the Fatty Pennies are a throw back to ‘penny quilts.”  Thus the name Fat Pennies.  This pattern booklet contains designs for 6 different plush Fat Pennies.

Plush toys are special gifts for children and adults.  Our Fat Pennies are plush monsters and critters with fun personalities. They can be cuddly, happy, confused, or ecstatic! They are as unique as the individual that will receive them and as unique as the secrets they will keep.”

The booklets are 4-6 projects, generally based on one design style or theme, or created by one author/designer.  The product comes in a clear plastic pattern sized hanging bag and would fit perfectly on your shop’s pattern wall.PeekABoo

Look for Fatty Pennies and other booklets from QuiltWoman.com popping up in the near future.

After winning the Make Mine a Million Dollar Business, QuiltWoman.com owner Nancy Dill, received quite a bit of press in various media outlets.  One article she’s most proud of is her feature, on the cover page, of the local Suburban News paper.  This is the paper circulated in Nancy Dill’s hometown area.  With the permission of Westside News Inc, we have posted a link to the article for you.

QuiltWoman.com CURES spine trouble

Monday, July 12th, 2010

SprialSpines

QuiltWoman.com cures spine trouble- for your sewing, crafting and quilting books, that is!

At QuiltWoman.com we publish all our titles with a spiral bound spine.  We made this move recently and want to tell you why your customers are going to love it.

OpenSpine

Sure, books are wonderful to flip through on the couch and read on a road trip.  They are a great source of inspiration for your creative endeavors.  More than that, though, our books contain excellent patterns and ideas for you to use at the sewing machine.  Have you ever tried to make a project from a traditionally bound book?  You either have to add weights to the sides to hold the book open, or add a permanent crease, or break, in the spine to hold the pages open.  With spiral bound, you can work with your book open, exactly to the page you need without damaging the book itself.

SpiralTitles

We offer a selection of books and we are releasing more titles each season.  Please stop by QuiltWoman.com on the web to see our titles.

The Scrapbook Calendar Quilt by Ann Dudek

Saturday, March 27th, 2010

By day, she is a mild mannered accountant.  But by night, she is The Scrapbook Calendar Quilter!!!  Of whom do we speak?  We speak of the amazing, multi-talented Ann Dudek!

Ann Dudek

Ann Dudek

We feel qualified here at QuiltWoman.com to call Ann “amazing and multi-talented” and to call her new book, The Scrapbook Calendar Quilt© a must-have.  You see, Ann is one of us, a QuiltWoman.com employee!

The Scrapbook Calendar Quilt

The Scrapbook Calendar Quilt

The majority of the QuiltWoman.com employees are quilters (yours truly included) and those that aren’t, are soon converted.  So when Ann came into our office one day with her Scrapbook Quilt© to show off, a new publication was born.

The book teaches its lucky owner how to create a quilt that reflects a year’s worth of memories.  Consisting of 12 months in the form of blocks with each day getting it’s own square, it’s as much fun to make as it is to look at.  A square can be embellished to represent the significance of that particular day.  No two quilts created from this unique concept will ever the same.

Mach - In like a lion, out like a lamb

March - In like a lion, out like a lamb

This book would be great for teaching a Block of the Month.  Start a class in January with the January block and move on from there.  Collecting fabrics for this quilt would be a great excuse to go on a shop hop (like we need one)!

The book is 72 pages and is fully illustrated in color with high quality photos of each block.  It is spiral bound so it will lay flat as you use it. As a bonus, there are also instructions for making a Baby’s Charm Quilt!

Spiral bound and full of color photos!

Spiral bound and full of color photos!

One of my favorite aspects of the book (besides the how-to-do-it portion) is Ann’s sense of humor.  We’ll just call it quirky.  I’ll use the discussion about the July block as an example.  To quote Ann, “July is my birthday month.  I am one of these people who think their birthday should be a national holiday.  So of course I had to put in a special fabric!”  I had the pleasure of proofreading the book before publication and was laughing the whole time!  This is not your ordinary, dry, how-to book.  When I make one of these quilts, I think I WILL put in Ann’s birthday as a special date!

The book is available now.  If you order it from QuiltWoman.com, you can ask to have Ann autograph it for you!  You’ll find a little check box on the check-out page with this option.

Ann will also be attending the Spring International Quilt Market in Minneapolis, May 21 – 23.  You can find her at the QuiltWoman.com booth (where else would she be???).  She’ll be having a book signing and will be sure to regale you with tales of all of her blocks and special days.  Ask her about the month of February!

So Ann, from the rest of us at QuiltWoman.com, congratulations on your new book.  You  gave birth to it, and we’d like to think we were the labor coaches cheering you on!

QuiltWoman.com owner, Nancy Dill, Highlighted by Accuquilt

Wednesday, March 24th, 2010

In AccuQuilt’s latest mailing to quilt shop owners, they highlighted a success story. Who do you suppose that success story was? ALL OF US (yes, that includes you, reader)!!! Betty’s Quilting etc. along with owner Nancy Dill were featured in their “Success Story” feature.   Nancy is also the owner of QuiltWoman.com, publisher of the popular Accuquilt Go pattern line.  Congratulations to Nancy, Betty’s Quilting Etc wonderful store staff, and to you, our WONDERFUL customers. We wouldn’t be the success we are without you.

“We first considered bringing the GO!®

Fabric Cutter into our store because customers kept asking if they could purchase our AccuQuilt Studio. That told me there was a market for GO! so I was very excited for its debut in Dec. 2008. We added it to our store offering at that time and have had great success with it.

We’ve found AccuQuilt’s marketing efforts have really helped in getting our customers interested in GO! especially the magazine coupon they offered during the holidays.

In addition, we offer GO! compatible QuiltWoman.com patterns, we display samples made with the GO! and demonstrate the product every chance we get.”

Cascade of Quilts and Cascade of Quilting Essentials

Barb

Barb wearing the Quiilter's Tool Belt

QuiltWoman.com is very proud to announce the publication of two new books, both by Barb Sackel.  They are Cascade of Quilts and Cascade of Quilting Essentials.

The inspiration for both of these books is the fabric line Shade Cascade by Karen Combs for Blank Quilting.  This fabric gradates from light to dark across the bolt, with each stripe being 11″ wide. It is useful in piecing as well as appliqué. It gives a realistic look to appliqué patterns and is great for creating illusions when piecing quilts.  It also solves the problem of “finding” a light, medium and dark fabric within a color family. It’s all there within one fabric!

Barb has built upon Karen’s fabric line, with a selection of quilts that build upon these varying values.  My absolute favorite is Cascade Chain, shown on the cover of the quilt.  If you think it’s gorgeous in print, you should see it in person.  My high school daughter has already declared that is the quilt she wants me to make for her when she goes off to college!

Also in the book are wall art quilts that really make use of the varying shades.  To do this book justice, you really need to see all the quilts featured in the book on the Casade of Quilts product page at QuiltWoman.com.

Cascade of Quilting Essentials

Barb has also designed patterns for you to create quilting accessories.  In Cascade of Quilting Essentials, you will find a multitude of projects to make any quilter happy.  It includes a Quilter’s Tool Belt (some of us will be wearing ours at Quilt Market in October), storage bags for your rulers and cutting mat, a fabric bag (to haul your stash), and a Go Green Carry All Bag.

Just imagine what you can create for youself, picking the color pallet of your choosing.

All in all, Barb has done a great job of putting together a number of fantastic projects for a fantastic fabric line.  Both books can be purchased at QuiltWoman.com.

These Sizzling Circles are HOT!

Thursday, April 30th, 2009

All right, my fellow stitchers, have we got a new technique for you. It’s featured in QuiltWoman.com’s newest publication (yes, another one!!!) called Sizzling Circles by Lacey J. Hill. I became a fan of Lacey the minute I read this in her bio, “She swears her stash reproduces at will and claims it requires its own zip code!”  That is a woman after my own heart.

So what’s this HOT new book about? It’s all about making quilts, table toppers, wall hangings, totes, etc. from quilted circles. Take a look….

Sizzling Circles by Lacey J. Hill

Sizzling Circles by Lacey J. Hill

Do you see what I’m talking about?  Circles!

Bye Bye Bias

Now in the past, working with circles has always involved having to deal with bias edges.  And we all know what a stretched-out mess that can be.  But with the method developed by Lacey, you don’t have to deal with messy edges.  As an added bonus, her method also means no binding is required.  Outstanding!

Easy to quilt too

Lacey’s unique patterns also involve a “Quilt-As-You-Go” technique.  That is particularly appealing…especially for those of us who don’t have long arms and need/want to do a bigger project.  No longer do you have to fit all that bulk under the arm of your machine to get the project quilted.  Sign ME up!

Fabrics gone wild!

You can go wild with your fabric choices for the quilts and other projects.  They work especially well with large scale print fabrics combined with a small-scale print.  Take a look at this table runner made from Mark Lipinski’s califon fabric.

Perfect for Appliqué

A lot of Lacey’s projects feature appliqué.  Knowing that everyone has their favorite appliqué technique, instructions for both Machine and Hand Appliqué are included.  I absolutely fell in love with this piece, Sizzling Circle Papaya.

As far as the quilts in the book (don’t forget the book has more than quilts), instructions are for three sizes (baby, lap, wall).  But once you learn the technique, the size of your project is limited only by your imagination.

The book is available now at QuiltWoman.com or at your favorite store (retail or on-line).  Get yours now and start digging through your stash!  To quote Lacey again, “Let’s be honest, it really is…All About The Fabric!
