From Lisa’s blog: “Jewel Pearce Patterson was one of the founders of Quilts, Inc. and the mother of Karey Bresenhan who is the current president of this organization. Quilts Inc. sponsors three major quilt festivals and two quilt markets each year. In 1990, this organization developed a scholarship for quilting teachers and one teacher is chosen for this prestigious award. This year is even more special as it would have been the 100th birthday of Jewel Patterson and I feel especially honoured.

The scholarship covers airfare and accommodation and a full program of workshops at the 2010 Houston Quilt Market and Festival and is an opportunity of a lifetime. The following year I will be required to mount an exhibition of my work and that of my students at the Houston Quilt Festival and it also travels to the other Festivals. What an extraordinary opportunity (actually terrifyingly scary) to show my
work to so many people.

A formal announcement will be released from Quilts Inc but I have been given permission to tell my nearest and dearest quilting family before I explode with excitement.”

From the QuiltWoman.com website:  “Lisa Walton lives in Sydney, Australia and has been quilting for over ten years. The first quilt she ever made was out of pre-cut Laura Ashley squares, and is now the family picnic rug living in the boot of the car.

She was given a pack of hand dyes at a quilters’ Christmas Party about five years ago and the bug bit hard. Friends started wanting to raid her stash – which was growing at an alarming rate – and were willing to pay real money for them. Her design work started when purchasers of her fabrics said how much they loved them but couldn’t work out what to do with them.

Lisa has had quilts published in Australian patchwork magazines and recently had a quilt included in the Patchwork Place publication “Bright Quilts from Down Under”. She has developed her own style of bright, lively quilts using traditional and contemporary techniques.

Dyed and Gone to Heaven use only the highest quality 100% cotton quilters’ muslin. Once dyed, the fabric retains its softness, and is perfect for hand and machine piecing and quilting. All our fabric is washed and rinsed many times after dyeing to maximize colorfastness.”

Congratulations!
